It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Khalid Usman, a respected community leader, dedicated public servant, accomplished professional, and cherished friend whose impact will be felt for generations to come. His passing marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in the history of both the local community and the countless organizations and causes he tirelessly supported throughout his life.
Khalid Usman was widely recognized as a giant within the community, admired not only in Canada but also in Pakistan, where his contributions and leadership earned him immense respect. For nearly 25 years, he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to public service, community development, and charitable work. His passion for helping others and improving the lives of those around him made him a trusted figure and a source of inspiration to many.
One of Khalid’s most notable contributions was his service as Ward 7 Councillor in Markham, a position he held with distinction for 14 years. During his tenure, he worked tirelessly to advocate for residents, promote growth, and strengthen the bonds that unite communities. His dedication to public service was driven by a genuine desire to make a positive difference, and his efforts left a lasting legacy across the city.
Beyond public office, Khalid was a remarkable philanthropist. He played a leading role in raising millions of dollars for local and international charitable initiatives. His fundraising efforts helped support major institutions and community projects, including the new Markham Campus for York University. As Chair of the Fundraising Committee of the Canadians of Pakistani Origin, he was instrumental in raising more than $3 million for Markham Stouffville Hospital, ensuring better healthcare resources for future generations.

He was awarded the Medal of Citizenship by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, received the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award, and was presented with the Tamgha-e-Khidmat by the President of Pakistan. These recognitions reflected the immense respect he earned through decades of service, generosity, and leadership.
Professionally, Khalid achieved exceptional success as a Chartered Accountant. In 2009, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario bestowed upon him the distinguished FCA (Fellow of the Institute) designation, recognizing his outstanding career accomplishments and significant contributions to both the accounting profession and the broader community. His integrity, professionalism, and dedication set a standard for others to follow.
