Forest Acres Police Department Identifies Woman Found Dead in Midlands – Annie Christinal Pushpanathan Case

The Forest Acres Police Department (FAPD) has identified the woman found dead in a recent incident in the Midlands as 53-year-old Annie Christinal Pushpanathan of Forest Acres. The case, which authorities are describing as a likely domestic violence-related murder-suicide, has deeply shocked the local community and prompted renewed attention to the ongoing issue of intimate partner violence.

According to officials, officers were called to a residence on Barnes Springs Road on Tuesday, May 26, at approximately 3:40 p.m. after a concerned family member requested a welfare check. When officers arrived at the home, they discovered that the front door was blocked and could not be immediately accessed. After attempting contact and assessing the situation, officers were forced to enter the residence to ensure the safety of those inside.

Inside the home, officers found the body of Annie Christinal Pushpanathan. The discovery immediately escalated the situation into a major law enforcement response, with investigators and specialized units being called to the scene to process evidence and secure the area.

During the unfolding response, hostage negotiators were able to make contact with a suspect inside or connected to the residence. Authorities reported that the suspect eventually surrendered and was taken into custody. However, officials later confirmed that the suspect had sustained a gunshot wound prior to law enforcement’s arrival at the scene.

The suspect was identified as 67-year-old Kenneth Dwain Benton of Forest Acres. He was transported to a hospital for medical treatment but later died from his injuries. Based on preliminary findings, investigators believe the incident was likely a murder-suicide, although the full circumstances remain under active investigation by law enforcement and forensic teams.

Chief Don Robinson of the Forest Acres Police Department stated that early evidence suggests the case was an isolated domestic violence incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. He emphasized that while the investigation is still underway, the situation underscores the severe and often hidden dangers associated with domestic violence.

Authorities also noted that officers had previously responded to the residence on multiple occasions. According to FAPD records, there were five separate complaint calls for service between 2015 and 2021 involving the individuals later identified in the case. In each instance, officials reported that there was insufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges, and both parties were offered support resources, which were declined at the time.

Law enforcement officials have reiterated that domestic violence cases can often escalate over time, even when earlier interventions do not result in prosecution. The Forest Acres Police Department has stressed the importance of community awareness, early reporting, and access to support services for individuals experiencing or witnessing signs of abuse.

Chief Robinson described the incident as “a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating consequences domestic violence can have on individuals, families, and entire communities,” echoing the department’s condolences to those affected by the tragedy.

As the investigation continues, crime scene analysts are conducting forensic examinations, reviewing evidence collected from the home, and working to establish a complete timeline of events leading up to the deaths of both individuals. Officials have stated that updates will be released as new verified information becomes available.

In the wake of the tragedy, local agencies have encouraged anyone affected by domestic violence to seek help. Support resources include Sistercare at 803-765-9428 and the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-SAFE, both of which provide confidential assistance and emergency support for individuals in crisis.

The Forest Acres community continues to mourn the loss of Annie Christinal Pushpanathan while grappling with the broader implications of the case. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and to reach out for help if they or someone they know may be in danger.
